hey kid, good morning to you. it's thursday, it's june 20th. let's start the check of our forecast with drew. >> all right. so summer arrives here today. it's the longest day of the year. and we'll have a very nice forecast. but this morning we are seeing a lot of cloud cover out there and some drizzle along the coast and across the city. here's a live look at the tam cam. believe it or not, you can already see the sunrise coming up here this early in the morning. current sky conditions a lot more cloud cover right now compared to say, yesterday. so napa, san jose, half moon bay, the city, even oakland. we are quite cloudy. be aware if you are in the city and along the coast early on this morning. we have drizzle out there. you may need your windshield wipers, believe it or not, upper 40s to the mid 50s. you're starting temperatures out the door this morning. so looking at the forecast, we are a couple of degrees warmer today than we were yesterday. we'll get you into the mid 80s as we look inland today. not as windy as we were yesterday, but a bit of a breeze. will pick up this afternoon. looking around the bay shoreline. we'll go into the upper 60s, lower 70s with afternoon sunshine after we burn

off some of our marine layer this morning, and then along the coast, we'll keep it pretty cloudy all day long. a little bit of sunshine here trying to peak out in the afternoon and highs in the upper 50s. let's check in with gloria, see how the commute is going. >> good morning. so far. it's going pretty good out there. you could see our map of the roads here in the bay area. mostly green, so no major slowdowns, no major delays. right now we do want to tell you about a little bit of road work, though. that is going on right now. this is in fremont on southbound 880. there is a little bit of a slowdown between stevenson boulevard and auto mall parkway because of that road work, but this will clear up at about 5:00 this morning. so it shouldn't last too much longer. pretty much any minute now. they should be clearing that up. and right here we have our usual slowdown at the altamont pass from 205 to north flint road. looking at your drive times for this morning from tracy to dublin, 39 minutes san rafael to san francisco, 16 minutes. antioch to concord 13 minutes. reggie thanks, gloria. >> today, baseball fans from across the bay area will be able

to gather today to honor willie mays. he died tuesday at 93 years old. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live outside of oracle this morning. with more on this special event and how fans can participate, lena. >> hey, reggie, good morning to you. starting at noon today, oracle park will be opening up their doors to grieving fans. the giants wanted to give these grieving fans an opportunity to pay their respects, and also to sign a condolence book. now, the giants say this is a free program in honor of willie mays. at 415, the ballpark scoreboard will air in a way game between the giants and the saint louis cardinals that's being played at rickwood field in birmingham, alabama, the same place where mays career began back in 1948. the mlb says the game will serve as a tribute to mays and the leagues, in which he played. >> my dad went to opening day, the first giants game ever, seals stadium in 58 and got to

proposals would have gutted the measure. abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez spoke with him about whether this is the end of the road. >> the fight over who controls self-driving taxis on city streets continues. state senator dave cortez pulled his senate bill 915 this week after the assembly committee on transportation presented major amendments. the bill would allow cities and counties to install their own regulations around autonomous vehicles. >> local mayors, a local city council members. they know their community. they meet every tuesday. they pass the laws every week. they pass new policies every week. we can't do that in sacramento. >> so right now, only the dmv is allowed to issue permits to av companies and has the authority to revoke permits if an av is not safe on public roads. all local fire and police is directed by cities and counties, not the state and yet the dmv is authorizing waymo to go into

cities like san francisco and now 22 other jurisdictions. just last month, waymo announced they will be expanding fully autonomous driving down the peninsula to sunnyvale. i spoke with tech expert ahmed bonafe, who expected the proposed bill would fail and said giving local control to cities could be complicated. >> we have only sometimes one street that will separate one. one town from another, one city from the other city. so what's going to happen if i would like to take the robotaxi from this city to the other city, and the other city has different rules or different restrictions? >> reporter on wednesday, the autonomous vehicle industry association released this statement. we are encouraged that sb 915 will not move forward. fortunately the legislature understood the bill would have prevented safety and accessibility opportunities for millions of californians. senator cortez said this is not the end of the bill. something similar will be reintroduced in

, saturday gets hot around here. we'll show you those numbers in one second. let's talk today. future weather. we have a lot of cloud cover out there. this morning we are seeing reports of drizzle across the city along the coast. just an indication of a pretty deep marine layer right now. what we'll find is that as we head into the afternoon, we'll keep those clouds close to the coast and we'll also have some high, thin clouds moving in from time to time. temperatures today are a little bit warmer than we were yesterday. we're pretty close to average. if you remember, yesterday we were below average. it was really cool for this time of the year. today we're pretty much where we should be for this time of the year. so highs across the region today we start out with that cloud cover breaks down for mostly sunny skies. later on today we'll hit 70 in oakland, about 81 in san jose, 85 in santa rosa, 80 in vallejo, 87 in antioch, across the city will hit 64. not as windy as we were yesterday in san francisco, but we'll have a breeze about 15 to 20mph heading into the weekend, though, things really start to

that happened during a juneteenth celebration at lake merritt in oakland last night. gloria, police now say it all started with the sideshow. >> they do. reggie. overnight, oakland police released new details about the shooting, saying about 5000 people had gathered at the lake yesterday evening to celebrate juneteenth and around 8 p.m, a sideshow started soon after a fight broke

out down the street. and as people gathered, that's when shots were fired and you could see all the police activity right here. at least four people were shot and taken to local hospitals and others were injured. oakland police do not believe that anyone has died from their injuries. they say they had a strong presence in the area because of the holiday. >> and i can tell you we had 28 officers and four sergeants out here, so we had a full detail monitoring this event because we knew events were going to happen and we wanted to make sure people had a safe time. but unfortunately that did not happen. >> no suspects have been arrested in the shooting, but one person was arrested for assaulting a police officer while officers were trying to direct people to a safe area. after the shooting, oakland police are asking anybody with any photos, videos or any information to contact them. kumasi >> thank you gloria. new information this morning about san francisco mayor london breeds efforts to bring a university campus downtown. not working out, at least for now.

the university of california tells the examiner that because of their current financial situation, they are not considering a new campus or any new facilities in san francisco right now. but they're still open to the idea in the future. you might remember a university campus where student housing downtown has been just one of mayor breed's ideas to fill office and retail space that's been vacant. breed's office says it will continue to engage with the university of california about downtown. >> now to a housing debacle that we've been following for nearly two years. the building at 33 tehama in san francisco's soma district, 600 tenants were displaced in 2022 after a water main broke and flooded much of the building. now it is back open with a new name and a new address. abc news abc7 news reporter suzanne phan has a look at the changes and what one former tenant is saying about the building's management. >> i literally felt like i was in a godzilla movie. there was water dripping down from everywhere. >> anchor sharma shutters at the memory of what he and hundreds

of other tenants went through. at 33 tehama in june 2022, tenants were forced from their homes after a massive flood. thousands of gallons of water poured down through the entire building. hines, the real estate development and management firm that owns the building, said a water main that is part of the building's fire sprinkler system failed at the top of the building. now, two years later, the building has reopened. tenants have moved into the newly renamed spera sf, which even has a new address, 39 tehama. a spokesperson for hines released this statement saying, quote, as of last month, approximately one third of the original residents from 2022 have returned to the property, and of those who elected to retain their leases throughout the extensive restoration, nearly 75% returned to the property. sharma decided not to return after he learned that his rent would increase by 50. he now lives in san diego. >> i wouldn't feel comfortable living there, any more. just you know, given the, the false

promises they've made so far. >> as for the new name and address, what do you think about that? >> it's a sham. they basically just fooling people so that, you know, they're the previous results don't pop up on google search. so that's why they change the name they've changed the address and the story. >> attorney fahimi represents 90 of the tenants who lived at 33 tehama in a lawsuit. >> we're going to continue to pursue them. we are hoping for a resolution, because it's clear kinds and defendants are liable. and these folks should not be delayed anymore in being compensated for what they've suffered through, spera says. >> they've done restoration and renovation work inside and out. >> it's trying to cover up for what has happened, and they're just trying to erase what has happened in san francisco. >> suzanne phan abc seven news. >> you can help to name san francisco's next two ferries. a contest is going on right now. it ends on monday. there are 12 options that have been narrowed down from nearly 300 entries. all of them came from local students and kindergarten through 12th grade. some of the possible names include farallon

begin your day. we will find sunshine. a little bit of a warmer afternoon. as we say hello to summer. this afternoon at 1:50 p.m. we have a little bit of drizzle out there as well, so don't be surprised if the next hour or so you need your windshield wipers close to the coast. winds are breezy once again, not as strong as they were yesterday. yesterday we had frequent gusts over 30mph. today. more on the order of about 15 to 25mph. that onshore flow continues to bring high relative humidity by friday into the weekend, the wind direction will begin to shift a bit and that will bring some warmer temperatures to kick off the weekend. but today, for the first day of summer, we're pretty much back to average after staying cool yesterday. so 79, in santa clara, 81 in san jose, 84, in morgan hill with sunshine. after that morning, cloud cover burns off along the peninsula. stays pretty cloudy for the coast, but we get sunshine for san mateo. redwood city, palo alto in the 70s. a bit more sunshine today across the city compared to yesterday.

still breezy this afternoon. a little bit warmer too in the low and mid 60s. heading into the north bay. we are warmer today. 80s and 90s starting to appear under mostly sunny skies in the east bay will hit 70 in oakland, which is warmer than yesterday. 76 in fremont will go to 77 castro valley and then inland will be in the low and mid 80s for daytime highs with lots of sunshine overnight tonight we'll have drizzle once again along the coast. pretty similar temperatures overnight tonight compared to where we are right now in the 40s and in the 50s. by friday we start to see those temperatures go above average. here's a look at how the week will end. and then to kick off the weekend. it gets hot around here. heat advisories will be in effect saturday for inland areas where temperatures are well into the 90s. if not hitting about 100 degrees. so again, you want to take those precautions. stay hydrated. find frequent breaks in the shade. if you have to be outside. temperatures start to cool off by sunday. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast. summer is here today. then we start to heat up inland. that heat advisory will be in effect for one day on saturday,

water sources that won't impact the water sources or supplies of any of the surrounding cities of solano county, bronson johnson of california forever says. >> by better managing the groundwater and surface water already on the 60,000 acres of farmland they own, they have more than enough water to support the first 100,000 residents. so there's no chance that it would turn up that you guys don't ultimately have the right to use that water. >> yeah. that's correct. these are fully secured water rights, but with a plan to grow to a city of 400,000, they also have to prove now there's enough water to do so. >> even during drought, in order to scale, they say they'll buy water rights from owners outside the county, recycle wastewater on site, and work to better replenish existing groundwater. we're concerned about the. benicia mayor, steve young sits on the solano county water agency board and is opposed to the new city backed by silicon valley billionaires. >> they don't want to necessarily follow the rules.

it down throughout the morning. most of us see that sunshine close to 10 a.m. we'll have temperatures that are close to average. yesterday we had those cooler than average temperatures. today we're pretty much where we should be for this time of the year. 80s, inland 60s and 70s around the bay shoreline. so highs today we'll get you to 64. in the city, 72 in oakland. we'll go to 87. in antioch, 81 in napa, the same in san jose. it's cool and cloudy in half moon bay at 58. but a nice day in santa cruz. we'll get that sunshine breaking out and a pleasant high of 70 degrees. now heading into the weekend, we just got a heat advisory issued this morning for areas inland, parts of the south bay and parts of the north bay. those areas shaded in orange. we'll see temperatures well into the 90s. to kick off the

sometime in the past ten years. maybe due money. the santa monica based company has just agreed to pay $15 million to settle discrimination and sexual harassment claims. snapchat says it disagrees with the allegations, but decided to settle to avoid costly and lengthy litigation. the settlement still needs to be approved by a judge. >> there's a new safety concern with boeing 737 max planes. a bird strike can cause the cabin to fill with smoke. boeing says it's happened at least twice when a large bird hit an engine. smoke from burning oil can enter the cabin through the air conditioning system. boeing warned southwest and american airlines about the problem earlier this year. the company is working with the faa on this. >> southwest airlines, celebrating its 53rd birthday by offering fares as low as $53 each way. but the deal ends in just a few hours. the promotion includes short haul flights out of the bay area, so within the state or nearby cities and

it's for areas away from the coast where those temperatures will get rather hot. we'll show you those numbers in a minute. and the extended outlook into next week will keep sunny and mild conditions. it is a little breezy later on today. those winds will gust about 15 to 25mph. over the weekend, that wind will shift and that will allow us to warm up. so the first day of summer temperatures actually back to average after that cooler than average day yesterday. so 70s and 80s in the south bay, san jose, up to 81 degrees. we'll go to 78 in cupertino, 82. the high in gilroy along the peninsula, we have clouds right now breaking for sunshine closer to about 9:10 a.m. this morning. and then those winds pick up later today, just like they did yesterday across the city. a little bit warmer today, a little bit brighter as well. we'll find those numbers in the 60s. and then those winds pick up about 25mph today in the north bay we're getting warmer 80s and 90s away from the coast. so we're at or above average for this time of the year in the east bay,
